Pablo Castañeda (Cádiz, 1989) is one of the most outstanding young artists on the Spanish contemporary art scene. Winner of the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize, one of the most prestigious awards on the British figurative art scene, he has fascinated audiences at the Art United competition (New York) and at the latest edition of UVNT Art Fair (Madrid). His experimental figuration, which explores processes and materials and the intersection between the pictorial and the digital, has been exhibited internationally in cities such as London, Wells, Bangalore and Milan.
THE ISLAND OF WONDERS
Local crafts such as blown glass, Mallorcan embroidery, Marratxí pottery and 'roba de llengües' are revisited, resized and recontextualised by Castañeda in futuristic atmospheres, liminal spaces in which the manual merges, in form and substance, with the electronic, through mixed techniques that combine oil on canvas, mural painting and digital printing.
