Mallorca’s finest beaches
If you want to be sure you don’t miss out on anything and get the most out of one of the Balearic Island’s greatest tourist attractions, we recommend this must-visit itinerary of some of Mallorca’s best and most beautiful beaches. It’s the perfect paradise if you’re a fan of fine sandy beaches (like those on a Caribbean island), crystal-clear turquoise waters and the stunning natural landscapes of these beautiful locations. So here is a list of Mallorca’s most enchanting and delightful beaches if you don’t want to leave the island without taking a dip.
Caló des Moro
Description of the cove:
Caló des Moro is an unmissable spot on the island. As soon as you arrive, you’ll understand why, as it is a genuine natural swimming pool sheltered by two small rocky cliffs. Its beauty means it is one of the most famous beaches on the whole island and it is best to get there early as it gets very busy later on.
Access and transport:
The best way to get to this beach is to drive to the small town of Santanyí and once you are there leave your car in the car park next to the beach. If you can’t find a space, you can park in the area around Calle s’Almunia and then it’s no more than a fifteen-minute walk to s’Almunia cove and from there another 5 minutes along a clear path to Caló des Moro. If you choose this option do be careful as you will have to descend to the beach via very steep stairs that can be slippery.
Sea conditions:
Once you reach the cove, you’ll see a shoreline that is more than 40 metres wide covered with fine, white sand and a crystal-clear sea that invites you to swim in its shimmering blue waters. The whole family are sure to love this beach where bathing is a summer experience that is not to be missed.
Facilities and services:
The beauty of this natural space, considered one of Mallorca’s finest beaches, is that it is almost completely unspoilt, despite the number of visitors it receives each summer. This means that it doesn’t have any facilities, showers, lifeguards, and there isn’t a beach bar where you can have a drink or a space to hire sunbeds. The best thing is to bring your own food and drink. And of course, make sure you take all your rubbish home with you when you leave.
Activities available:
After travelling to this beach and enjoying yourself on the sand, the finishing touch to your summer day out is to be found in the surrounding area. Why not head to Santanyí to discover this charming town where you can purchase local produce and artisan products or wander through the small traditional fishing port with its white houses by the sea at Cala Figuera? You could visit the Mondragó Natural Park or, if you want to travel a bit further afield, head to the famous Drach Caves.
Es Trenc Beach
Description of the beach:
We could not miss Es Trenc off our list of Mallorca’s most inviting and stunning beaches. For a moment you might think you’re in the Caribbean but you are, in fact, on one of Mallorca’s most famous and beautiful beaches with its turquoise waters, brilliant white sands and the wonderful atmosphere that it exudes.
Access and transport:
Es Trenc is a long beach. It is the only large expanse of sand that has not been developed and it is located in a protected area. It is 50 minutes by road from Palma and it can be reached by bus or by car, which you can leave in the nearby paid car park next to the beach. Another good option, if you don’t have a car or motorbike, is to arrive by boat… a total luxury for the senses.
Sea conditions:
If you visit this beach be very careful with the sun, especially if you’re travelling with small children as there is hardly any shade. You will need to take your own beach umbrella for protection, especially if you’re visiting in the middle of the day. Once you are all set up, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a dip in the tranquil waters while you await the golden hour at Es Trenc when you get to watch the magnificent sunset.
Facilities and services:
As it is so well-known this beach has plenty of facilities, including showers and toilets, a lifeguard service, disabled access, bars and restaurants and sunshades and sunbeds for hire.
Activities available:
We have already mentioned arriving at this beach by boat, and a good activity available in the surrounding area is to book a relaxing trip on a catamaran which includes a swim at this beach and at the nearby beach of Es Caragol.
Formentor Beach
Description of the beach:
Located along a peninsula, in one of the island’s most stunning natural settings, this is another of Mallorca’s most beautiful beaches and therefore has to feature on our list of Mallorca’s top beaches.
Access and transport:
The beach is located more than an hour by road from Palma and if you are travelling by car there is a nearby paid car park. However, if you want to go to this area in summer, you must remember an important detail: access to private vehicles is not permitted and you can only access the area by boat or bus.
Sea conditions:
This long narrow beach is ideal for families with small children as it has shallow waters and all the facilities you will need to spend an unforgettable day at the beach that everyone will enjoy.
Facilities and services:
As with the previous beach, this beach has all the facilities you will need for a perfect summer day out.
Activities available:
Once you have had a swim, one of the activities you can do in the area is book a trip to Formentor which includes a visit to Alcudia, a boat trip to Cap de Formentor (with impressive views of the cliffs) or you could take a ride on a jet ski over the beautiful calm blue waters. Another recommendation if you are walking to the lighthouse is to stop at the spectacular Cala Figuera, a small cove with crystal-clear waters set among rocky cliffs.
